Bottomonium and Drell-Yan production in p-A collisions at the CERN SPS

Abstract:

The NA50 experiment has carried out a comprehensive study of heavy quarkonia production. In particular, data from p-A collisions have been collected in order to estimate the size of the absorption of quarkonia states in cold nuclear matter. Along with the studies on J/$\psi$ and $\psi$', previously reported, NA50 has measured for the first time the bottomonium production at 450 GeV incident energy, on five nuclear targets. We will show results on the nuclear dependence of the $\Upsilon$ production cross section, which will be critically compared with the measurements of other fixed-target experiments and with the predictions of various theoretical models. Finally, we will present the transverse momentum distributions for the $\Upsilon$ meson and for high mass Drell-Yan dimuons and we will discuss the influence of initial state parton scattering on their A-dependence.
