High-pT Delta Phi correlations with increased statistics in STAR

Abstract:

We present ongoing studies of Delta phi correlations of high transverse momentum (pT) charged hadrons in Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV, using the higher-statistics dataset recorded in 2004. Previous measurements showed a characteristic suppression in central Au+Au collisions of the back-to-back peak expected from dijets, providing strong support for the jet quenching picture. With the present data we can make more quantitative statements of the suppression, both due to better characterization of the underlying event shape and improved statistics, allowing to extend measurements to higher pT. Of particular interest is the search for the reemergence of the away-side jet with increasing pT. We will make comparisons to recent energy loss calculations and discuss future directions for using high-pT correlations to study early stages of the collision.
