Nuclear modifications and elliptic flow measurements for Phi mesons at sqrt(sNN) = 200 GeV dAu and AuAu collisions by PHENIX

Abstract:

PHENIX has observed particle species dependence of R_dAu and R_AA at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV. In AuAu collisions, strong suppression increasing with centrality is observed for pions, while the (anti)proton yields at intermediate pt appear unaffected by the medium. In dAu, the proton yield shows stronger Cronin enhancement than the pion yield. Pronounced baryon/meson differences are also seen in the elliptic flow (v2) for pi, K, p, lambda, and omega, with v2 obeying an empirical quark scaling behavior. Observations involving the phi present a unique opportunity to distinguish mass effects from baryon/meson effects due to phi's large mass. PHENIX has measured phi spectra in pp, dAu and AuAu collisions. The high statistics AuAu data collected during 2003-4 RHIC run allows a detailed study of phi yields as a function of pt and centrality. We present R_dAu and R_AA of phi and compare to that of pions and protons. First results on phi meson v2 in AuAu collisions will also be discussed.
