Transport coefficients in strongly interacting gauge theories: insights from string theory
Dr. Andrei O. Starinets
Abstract:
Duality between higher-dimensional semiclassical gravity and strongly coupled gauge theories in four dimensions developed in superstring theory over the last eight years can be applied to thermal gauge theories and extended to near-equilibrium processes. Shear and bulk viscosity and the speed of sound in special strongly interacting gauge theories can be computed using string theory methods. We report on recent progress in this direction. back to the Archives home to the Parallel talks to the Posters |
